Seminar of the European Ideas Network (EIN) jointly with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung(KAS): Technological Leadership and Industrial Revolution: the role of the European Union
On the 15th and 16th of October 2018, the European Ideas Network will host a seminar on “Technological leadership and Industrial Revolution: the role of the European Union”.
About 30 years ago, the fourth industrial revolution began, known as the "digital revolution", generating enormous economic potential since then. However, it consequently spread the fear of the changes involved in this process, since it affects our societies both socially and economically in unprecedented way.
The development of the digital and technological innovations led to some permanent changes in every sectors of activity, especially the work sector, spreading the fear among workers all around Europe. Artificial intelligence and IoT have put many jobs at risk, both because of the threat of jobs replacement and the demand of new digital competences and skills. Nevertheless, these technological breakthroughs entail great benefits, being necessary to invest in innovative methods and process optimization in order to keep up with the competition.
The biggest challenges in the development of new technology are related to training and security. Thus, it is essential to promote the improvement of the necessary skills to the different stakeholders, in order to prepare society for the changes to come, as well as tackling the threats it might involve.
What is the role of the European Union in this process? How to keep pace with the industrial revolution? Are we ready to embrace the new challenges and shape our lives according to these new advances?
